Hi everyone! The time has come to announce our very first residential trip, all the way to Cardiff, the capital of all things Doctor Who. We will leave by coach from outside the Guild on the afternoon of Friday 28th March and return on Sunday 30th.
The trip includes 2 nights' accommodation in the Bunkhouse Hostel on St. Mary St in Cardiff city centre, the perfect location to explore the city from. Friday evening and Saturday morning would both be free for you to settle in and have a look around. You'd be responsible for your food and drink accross the weekend but there are plenty of options in Cardiff.
At 2pm on Saturday we are booked in to a walking tour of Doctor Who filming locations, over the centre of town and the Civic Centre area. This takes in about 75 episodes, with references to every Doctor, companion and series from the last 20 years, spanning about 20 locations. After this, we will make our way to Cardiff Bay to see more filming locations, including Torchwood tower and the entrance to Torchwood hub, where Ianto’s shrine is now set up. Mermaid Quay is also full of restaurants and pubs for everyone to have a meal before we head back to the hostel.
On Sunday, we will be visiting St Fagan's museum, which as well as being featured in Doctor Who numerous times has amazing recreated historical buildings from across time which will make you feel like you've been in the TARDIS! From there, we will be catching the coach back to Liverpool (leaving around 3pm).
We have been planning this trip for a very long time and are so excited to begin offering you tickets, with our costs having been subsidised by the Guild. There are 33 spaces available. If you have any questions or concerns about the trip feel free to email either the Doctor Who Society address, or Carys (the president), hscking7@liverpool.ac.uk. We really hope you take advantage of this wonderful chance to bond with your peers, visit somewhere perhaps new to you and learn more about our favourite show!
If you buy this ticket online via the Guild website, you will be charged a transaction fee of 1.5% per ticket, plus a 30p surcharge. Tickets are also available via the Guild Reception between 9am-4:45pm, Monday to Friday. At Reception, you will not be charged a transaction fee, but please note this method is cash only and we would ask that you please bring the correct tender, where possible.
