My Committees

Education Committees

Focusing on post-graduate research students, this committee oversees any proposed changes to post-graduate policies.

Senate is one of the highest decision-making bodies at the University and is responsible for promoting research, promoting and regulating learning and teaching, and for maintaining the quality of standards of the University’s academic provision. The Guild’s officers, along with three elected Student Reps, work throughout each academic year to ensure that student voice is at the heart of the decisions made by Senate about/for the University.

This working group reviews the University’s assessment and feedback policies and practices to enhance effectiveness, consistency, and equity. The group also monitors the Code of Practice on Assessment and the PGR Code of Practice.

This group looks at which school leaving qualifications are allowed upon entry to the University. They generally base this around A-Levels, B-Tecs and their International equivalents.

Cororporate

This committee audits and monitors the University’s compliance with the Office for Students regulations regarding Consumer Law. The focus is on student’s consumer rights being abided by when ‘purchasing’ degrees and other products from the University. This committee focuses on students’ consumer rights being adhered to when ‘purchasing’ a degree and other products from the University. Adnan, an ex-President, successfully removed academic sanctions for non-academic debt as part of the “Cut the Rent” campaign in the academic year 20/21.

This committee sets all tuition fees and bursaries and formulates strategy on student numbers and widening participation students.

This committee forms the strategic relationship between the University and the Guild. It monitors and signs off the Guild’s reports and accounts. This committee acts as a forum to discuss university and Guild joint campaigns and activities.

This group was established to ensure the University is compliant in relation to attendance monitoring of international students. The Tier 4 Visa is the general student visa that all international students have. Universities sponsor students to study so they are able to get a tier 4 visa from the home office. As a sponsor, the University has many responsibilities, including monitoring the attendance of students on a tier 4 visa.

Student Experience Committees

This committee looks at the nursery on campus which is available to staff and students with nursey age children at the University. It deals with a range of issues relating to the nursey and the contract they have with the University. The Guild stopped an increase in the campus nursery fees for both staff and student parents

The University Active Campus Board will strengthen the governance of sports and physical activity services and related investment. It will promote, support, and monitor the implementation of the Active Campus 2026 strategy, evaluate the success of programmes, projects and interventions, and track performance against key targets. It will keep sports related policy under review and aligned to help meet wider University objectives.

There are three strands to the Student Success Board: The Academic Success strand addresses the University’s institutional aim to ensure that ‘all students have the opportunity and support to achieve their full academic potential’. The Future Success strand addresses the University’s institutional aim to ensure that ‘all students have space and opportunity to build their intellectual, social and cultural capital for the future’. The Personal Success strand addresses the University’s institutional aim to ensure that ‘all students experience a welcoming and supportive environment which prioritises well-being and belonging’.

This committee oversees the development and implementation of strategies, policies and frameworks designed to promote research at international and world-leading standards across all disciplines in the University. Jamilia, an ex-Vice-President, worked closely with the REC team on the REC Student Survey, supporting question design and promoting the survey to get students to take part. The survey constitutes a critical element of the REC application, consulting directly with students about their experiences with race and equality at the University of Liverpool. The information gathered through this work will also inform the University’s strategy to address equality and diversity in the institution in the next decade.

International

This group has oversight of study abroad students including the Year in China at XJTLU. The group focuses on issues such as grade conversions, module changes, the student experience and well-being, and quality of teaching.

OPOG oversees the provision of online programmes and ensures the implementation of university policies and procedures in respect to online programmes.
