Friday 26th July will see the return of Liverpool Pride, a weekend full of activity to help celebrate, commemorate and march with our local LGBTQ+ community. After a record-breaking 20,000 people joined the march last year, Liverpool Pride is back bigger than ever. Learn a little more about Pride in the city and your need to know details to get involved this year.

A brief history of Pride in Liverpool and at the Guild

1971 - The first GaySoc stall at the Guilds Welcome Fair

15th May 1972 - GaySoc (also know as Homophile Society) officially established, now known as the LGBTQ+ Society

1990 - Liverpool Lesbian and Gay Action group 'challenged and fought heterosexism through campaigning, being out, direct action and ‘generally having a good time’

7th + 8th Aug 2010 - Liverpool holds its first official Pride event. 21,000 people attended, with 18 hours of performances featured across the two days. Before 2010, Liverpool was the largest UK city to not have an official Pride. The dates were chosen by local LGBT+ communities to be close to the 2nd anniversary of the homophobic murder of Liverpool teenager Michael Causer, as an opportunity to commemorate him.

2011 - Liverpool Pride Quarter is the first LGBTQ+ neighborhood to be recognized in the UK. It now has over 12 bars in and around Dale Street, Victoria Street and Tithebarn Street.
