Your local elections are being held on Thursday 4th May 2023. You have the power to vote for candidates that share your views – but first, you need to register to vote.
You must be registered to vote by Monday 17th April to be eligible to vote in your local elections. Registering can be completed in just five minutes via the Government website.
You’ll need Voter ID to vote in this year’s local elections, any of the following forms of photo ID are valid:

a UK or Northern Ireland photocard driving licence (full or provisional)

a driving licence issued by the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Isle of Man or any of the Channel Islands

a UK passport

a passport issued by the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or a Commonwealth country

a PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)

a Blue Badge
-
a biometric residence permit (BRP)
-
a Defence Identity Card (MOD form 90)

a national identity card issued by the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
-
a Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
-
a Voter Authority Certificate
-
an Anonymous Elector’s Document
You can still use your photo ID if it's out of date, as long as it still looks like you.

If you don’t have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID - Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate for the local elections is 5pm on Tuesday 25th April 2023.
