archiveBDSDivestmentReferendum

On Monday 25.4.22 – Wednesday 27.4.22 we held a referendum in order for students to have their say on whether the Guild should support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.

We can now reveal the outcome of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Referendum.

With 1568 votes in total, we had a turnout of 5.5% of the student body.

Students have voted ‘No – the Guild should not support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement”

This is the full breakdown of results:

No - 820

Yes - 748

Thank you to everyone who had their say on this issue and voted in the referendum.

The Referendum took place following an idea that was initially proposed by a student on our Change It platform. The idea was subsequently discussed at the Guild Summit, on 8th February. At that meeting Summit attendees did not reach consensus on the matter and therefore went to a cross campus ballot. The Referendum gave all students the opportunity to express their views on this topic and shape the action we should take.

Next Steps:

We understand the sensitive nature of this referendum, and the impact it has had across both sides of the debate, following the outcome of the referendum, we are committed to continuing to build positive campus relations and will be putting steps in place to ensure this.
