Last week, we ran a preferendum to ask you: Should the Guild lobby the University to change the name of Roscoe and Gladstone Halls?
A total of 2780 votes were cast over the week, and we can now reveal the decision you made: No, do not change the name but install an informative plaque detailing Gladstone’s politics, good and bad.
We will now take the necessary steps to complete this, and keep you informed on our progress.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the preferendum and had a say.
The idea to rename the Halls was suggested by a student through our Change It system. Because of the support for the suggestion, it was discussed at Guild Summit, where it was decided that holding a preferendum to get the opinion of the wider student body would be preferred.
For more information about the suggestion, see the full papers for the Guild Summit meeting here.
Here's a full breakdown of the results:
2780 ballots were cast: 37 ballots were spoilt; 2743 ballots were counted.
