Your Student Guide to National Vegetarian Week in Liverpool

Student Guidevegetarian

Calling all veggie enthusiasts! Whether you're a lifelong vegetarian or looking to try some meat-free dishes for fun, Liverpool boasts a feast of options.

Places to go:

Down the Hatch

If exam season has left you craving comfort food, 'Down The Hatch' is your friend. With a quirky selection of vegetarian and vegan food, from loaded fries to seitan wings, it's all the cheeky treats without the meat. They also offer vegan desserts and milkshakes for those who adore sweetness after dinner!

Maray

For a Middle Eastern-inspired meal, try Maray! With signature falafel, roasted cauliflower, and smoked aubergine dishes, it's a win-win. Also, if you're celebrating (or not!), why not try one of their infamous cocktails or mocktails?

Mowgli Street Food:

Not only does this restaurant have swings and fairy lights, but it also has a wide selection of veggie options. Try their famous yoghurt chat bombs, vegan tiffin boxes, or temple dayl. The Vibrant Indian Street food restaurant is definitely one to visit before Summer.

Lunya

The Spanish tapas bar offers vegetarian and vegan options, with patatas bravas, Padron peppers, and vegetarian paella. With Spanish wine and cheese, it's an easy way to start your veggie experience.

Try it at home!

Vegetarian dishes are so easy to incorporate at home. As well as being meat-free, they are often cheaper. So more coins to spend in The Sphinx! The following dinners are ideas of how to create vegetarian meals at home.

• Vegetarian Chilli Con Carne:

· Replace your beef mince with Quorn! Aldi has their own range now, so it has even better value for money and tastes similar.

• (Not Chicken) Chicken Nuggets:

· While it could be tempting to stumble into 'Hot N Tender' after a night out, why not pop home and put your 'Quorn' Nuggets in the oven (safely). While I might not have sold the idea, Quorn nuggets are notorious for tasting similar. When coated in ketchup- who notices! Save the meat and your money.

• Vegetable Stir fry:

· Swap out your meat for more vegetables or Quorn. Eating less red meat means you might need to source your protein elsewhere. Consider adding nuts or other sources of protein to level your intake

Hopefully, this list has inspired you to incorporate more veggie meals into your meal plan or even pop into one of the restaurants as an end of exams treats! Liverpool's food culture is rich with options, and you are bound to like one.
