My manifesto
Accessible software, student involvement in projects, lower accommodation costs, and fair Guild shop pricing—vote for real change!
Manifesto for Student Officer Election – Jay Thakkar
I’m Jay Thakkar, and I’m here to make your university experience fairer, more affordable, and full of opportunities. Having worked on digital projects, produced podcasts, and collaborated with university teams, I know what needs to change. Here’s my plan:
Full Software Access for All Students
Why should software access be a privilege? I will push for free access to all essential software on university laptops so every student has the tools they need to succeed—without restrictions or extra costs.
More Student Involvement in University Projects
Experience matters. Every university project should offer real opportunities for students through internships or HEAR-recognized activities. I have worked with the Brett Centre for Enterprise, and I know how hands-on experience boosts employability. I will fight to ensure students are at the heart of university initiatives.
Lowering Student Accommodation Costs
Rent prices are out of control, and students are paying the price. I will work with the university and landlords to negotiate fair pricing, increase transparency in fees, and put an end to unnecessary price hikes. Affordable housing should be a right, not a luxury.
Making the Guild Shop More Affordable
Why should everyday essentials cost more on campus? I will push for fair pricing at the Guild shop, ensuring students can buy stationery, snacks, and necessities without overpaying.
I have led student projects, built platforms for open conversations, and fought for student voices to be heard. Now, I want to do the same for you. Vote for me, and let’s make real change happen.
